In 2021, Johan was elected President of FIS, the largest federation in winter sports, covering 14 disciplines and delivering 55% of medals at the Olympic Winter Games medals and 80% at the Paralympic Winter Games.

In this role he has transformed the federation: drawing up a five-year strategic plan; overseeing a wide-ranging digital strategy; centralising media rights to ensure greater prosperity for the years to come; and bringing in a laser focus on sustainability.

A member of the International Olympic Committee, Johan sits on the Sustainability and Legacy Commission.

In 2025 he ran as a candidate for the Presidency of the IOC. His manifesto can be read here.

In his spare time, Johan is a keen sportsman, and has competed over the years in skiing, golf, curling, tennis, motor racing, football, ice-hockey and sailing.
